Do the Los Angeles Kings have the ability to trap lightning in a bottle for the second straight season and use the underdog card to fight their way into the Stanley Cup Finals again? It’s unlikely, but there is always the chance.
Why is it unlikely, because this year, people will be looking out for the Kings. That and no team has won back to back Stanley Cups in almost 20 years, the Detroit Red Wings winners of the 97 and 98 Stanley Cups.
One positive the LA Kings have going for them according to Rich – is that not much has changed from last season – so with the star power and experience the Kings could be the first team to win two in a row, capitalizing on the shortened season. Can Jonathan Quick be the man the Kings need him to be again, or will the tandem behind the note in St. Louis outplay him into the second round.
The Blue’s have been relevant the past couple of seasons primarily because of their goaltending. St. Louis has always been a second favorite team of mine, so I will be rooting for them hard here in the first round. Can’t explain it other than the fact that they wear shades of blue and gold as well.
Rich and I agree on a number of things, solid goaltending at one end, great defense at the other. Both teams can score – but the Kings do a great job of spreading it out more, making everyone a threat inside the blue line.
Rich and I agree that this series is going to go seven games, which isn’t great for either club – Rich has the Kings outlasting the Blues, I am going the opposite, with the reign of the City of Angels over after seven games.
