Daily Dasherboard Friday, May 3

Readers, I am all sorts of pumped up.

I braved crowded theaters filled with college students and people dressed in Iron Man costumes to catch last night’s premier of Iron Man 3, and I’m here to tell you: it’s good.  Make that great.  Go out and see it; you won’t be disappointed.

You don’t have to be a fan of the movie franchise, however, to appreciate the work of iron men.  The world of sports is filled with tough guys who take a beating and come back for more . . . sometimes way earlier than anyone expected, such as Erik Karlsson.  What a comeback by this iron man.

Iron men often throw their teams over their shoulders and single-handedly propel them to victory, such as Craig Anderson did last night.  What a game – make sure you watch the game highlights!

Wanna know something else about iron men in the NHL?  They tend to go deep into the playoffs, which means they often grow some nasty-looking beards.

The NHL is not the only sport that has started its postseason right about now, nor is it the only sport with iron men.  Check out how the Boston Celtics’ iron men of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are proving to be thorns in the sides of the New York Knicks during the NBA playoffs.

Baseball has its share of iron men, too, including this player who earned an iron man milestone, then played in the sort of game that is typically won by the team with an iron will.

Finally, for those of you who are interested in seeing Iron Man 3, head here to read about on what critics and fans have to say about the latest exploits of Tony Stark.
