Buffalo Sabres players Christian Ehrhoff, Thomas Vanek and Jhonas Enroth were all in action on May 11 as the IIHF World Championships continued in Helsinki and Stockholm.
First up, Buffalo Sabres left winger Thomas Vanek and Team Austria faced Finland. Vanek had one assist as Austria dropped the game, 7-2. Vanek led the Austrian squad in shots (4) and was a plus-1 in 16:20 ice time.
Austria will face Russia in its final preliminary round game of the 2013 IIHF World Championships on May 13.
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth was also in action on Saturday as Sweden faced Slovenia. Enroth had a perfect game, allowing no goals on 21 shots faced in the sixty minutes.
Enroth has allowed just five goals in the four games he’s played in during the tournament. He’s fourth in save percentage (94.12 percent) and has a 1.30 GAA.
Sweden will play its final preliminary round game on May 14 against Denmark.
Finally, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff had one assist as Germany defeated Latvia, 2-0. Ehrhoff’s assist came on a goal by forward Patrick Hager in the third period to help seal the win.
Ehrhoff had two shots and was plus-1. He was the only German player to see over 20 minutes of ice time, as he played 27:22 in Saturday’s game.
Germany finishes up its preliminary round action on May 14 with a meeting against France.
Rochester Americans forward Zemgus Girgensons missed Saturday’s game after he was suspended one game by the IIHF for butt-ending another player. He’ll be eligible to return on May 13 when Latvia faces France in the team’s final preliminary round game of the 2013 IIHF World Championships.
