Extended! Weekend Poll: Who Will the Buffalo Sabres Draft in the First Round of the 2013 NHL Draft?

Note: this poll, which was originally set to expire on Sunday at midnight, has been extended through Monday!

If you did not already know this, we here at Fansided are doing a 2013 NHL Mock Draft.  Each team site is producing a post in which they explain who their team should pick, and why, in this year’s NHL draft.  Head on over to Too Many Men on the Site to check it out.

Here’s where you need to listen up, Sabres fans:

I’m a democratic kind of guy.  Sure, I could just write up my personal take on who the Buffalo Sabres will draft with the eighth pick in the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft . . . but how much fun would that be for you?  You fans are a pretty savvy bunch – I’m interested in hearing who YOU wish the Sabres will pick on June 30th.

Vote in this poll (which I have set up to allow two votes per person – pick your top two choices!!!) and, if you wish, leave a comment below explaining your pics.  Should the top vote getter still be available in our mock draft, then I will write up the Sabre Noise pick based on the player you have all chosen.  If one of the editors from another site has already picked our number one vote-getter, I will fall back to plan B.

Note: in our mock draft, Alexander Barkov, the number one rated European prospect, is still available!  Crazy, I know.  I have included him in the poll, but he is clearly a longshot.  If you vote for him, just keep that in mind.  Also, if you have a pick in mind that I did not include, please make note of that in the comments section!    I have tried to pick players who were projected to go within the top 10-15 picks, but if you think there’s a sleeper out there worth considering, feel free to bring it to my attention!

This poll closes on Monday, at midnight, so have fun, and vote, now!

Who should the Buffalo Sabres pick in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft?

  • Rasmus Ristolainen (13%, 29 Votes)

None of the above. Terry needs to draft John Davidson for GM and then let Davidson select our number one pick.

      No fair, David! :)

Who cares? As long as Darcy Regier is the gm, no pick will deliver us from the crap at the bottom of the NHL!!

That’s the spirit! Just kidding, but as much as I may not trust Darcy, I still try to have fun around here. :)

Richard, Has there ever been a worse General Manager in the whole of sports, professional or amateur? I, sure as hell can’t think of one! How about the worst no-show owner? Our Sabres are in the hands of incompetents! Lest I forget, there is also, Ted Black, who is as dark as his name suggests, not skin color, resultwise.

That would be an interesting topic to research, the idea of worst GMs. I agree that the Sabres appear to be a ship lost at sea right about now!

I have to stick up for DR a bit here. He has over the time made some damn good deals, and some bad ones, just like any other GM. DR’s problem is he waits too damn long. Now take a look around the league before you make a complete judge of him. I would bet you will find some cities that hate their GM as much as we hate ours. Another thing is perception, since he has been here so long we know everything about him and can read him like a cheap book. If he has only been here a couple of years our perception might be somewhat different.

The voice of reason! Speak to Avalanche fans about their brass – I have heard comments just as scathing, if not worse. You’re 100% right, Kevin, although I still don’t love the prospect of having the Sabres’ current brass picking this year. However, should the Sabres be competitive next year, public perception will shift, like it usually does! :)

  • Yannick Cloutier

And what about Nichushkin? This guy is a MUST…

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

Already picked by one of our sister sites (the folks over at the Nashville Predator site).

Barkov and Nurse have been selected by sister sites, so if you have not voted yet, keep that in mind!

  • Sean McGrath

Darnell Nurse has the strong ability to shut down offensive threat, he may be lanky, but the kid has amazing ability to grow! Plain and simple, should this draft go this way, I think it’s only right to take him at 8.

    • Sean McGrath

Sorry, I didnt see that Nurse was taken by the Oilers, I’ll change mine to Shinkaruk. Quick hands and good ice vision can make him a solid offensive threat.
