Welcome to the frenzy!

Today is July 5th, and as many of the more sober/lucid readers will be able to attest, it’s the first day of free agency in the NHL.  If the NHL Entry Draft creates unrealistic expectations of NHL teams landing the next Wayne Gretzky, the beginning of free agency fosters unrealistic expectations of mediocre teams landing a player who will transform a franchise from cellar-dwellar to Cup-hoister in a calendar year.

What fun!  No matter – it’s fun to watch the game play out.  Here are your day’s links, hand-picked to help you make sense of these crazy times.

Start your free agent/trade tacking at Hockey Buzz.  They have added a nice new feature: a rumor tracker that sits right at the top of the page!  How convenient.

You should always refer to My NHL Trade Rumors, as well, although they get hit with so much traffic you might have problems loading it every so often. Feel free to follow him on Twitter @myNHLTradeRumor, as well.

Here’s a look at the 13 most coveted free agents available starting at noon today.  [NHL.com] Don’t get your hopes up, Sabres fans!

Interested in how free agent goaltenders are faring?  Look no further! [Bleacher Report]

Interested in knowing who the most overrated free agents are?  Look no further! [Bleacher Report] And watch the Buffalo Sabres try to overpay one of these guys!

TSN will be constantly updating its UFA Tracker throughout the day – make sure you keep checking in to see who has been signed, by whom, and for how much!

Hope I have set you up for a fun day of web browsing and Twitter scanning!  Enjoy!

Rich what is your take on bringing in talinder for a second stint? To me this just stalls the rebuild of our teammandthe youth movement you know hinder the development of pysyk, ruhwedel, mcnabb, and the two new picks this is just a dumb idea I know veteran presence can be a good thing how ever in this case we should do an all out rebuild and just play our youth NHL ready prospects this is the best idea if we have to suffer lets suffer by watching our future grow while also putting us in position to acquire game changing forwards in future drafts the name mcdavid come to mind in 2-3 years he will be draft eligible
