The Anaheim Ducks

For a while now, it has seemed as if Anaheim has been all too-willing to break up their core of Bobby Ryan-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry.  Sure, sure,

sure – Anaheim Ducks bloggers (see here and here) will tell you there is no chance that Bobby Ryan will get traded, that these rumors are either 100% fictional or rumors based off of the fact that Anaheim GM Bob Murray listened to an offer from another GM.  Please.  If Bob Murray had no interest in trading Ryan, he would not waste his time listening to trade offers.  I don’t want to sell my children; therefore, any conversation that begins with, “I’d like to make an offer for your children . . . ” wouldn’t make it past those 9 words.  There has to be SOME interest in moving Ryan, even if it would require a blockbuster trade.  Listen up, then, Anaheim: how would you like Thomas Vanek on your team?  For starters, you need him – you’ve been weak at the left wing forever, converting players such as – you guessed it – Bobby Ryan from right wing to left in order to make due.  Guess what?  Vanek plays left wing – quite well, actually.  I know Anaheim doesn’t want to break up its core of players, but sending Ryan and either another player of their choice (or a prospect/pick – smarter people than me will have to work all of that out) to Buffalo for Vanek would actually make the Ducks a better team, no doubt.  This move just makes sense for Anaheim, and I know Sabres fans are going to argue that Buffalo won’t be getting equal value, but the Sabres will be getting a 30+ goal scorer in exchange for a player who is just going to leave Buffalo high and dry at the end of the season anyway.  You’re not going to get 100% equal value for Vanek; this isn’t a bad deal at all.
