Buffalo Sabres Sign Two Defenseman

Just four days ago the Buffalo Sabres announced they would allow Alexander Sulzer and Adam Pardy to enter free agency.

Today the team announced that they have signed Alexander Sulzer to a one year deal, and defenseman Drew Bagnall to a multi-year two way contract.

With no splash towards any offensive talent on free agency, it appears that a return is in order to the Buffalo Sabres of the 1-0 era.

Sulzer rejoins the Buffalo Sabres after appearing in 32 games for the Sabres over the past two seasons, registering six goals, and six assists in those games.

Bagnall comes to the Buffalo Sabres from the Houston Aeros/Minnesota Wild.  Bagnall appeared in only two games for the Minnesota Wild.

Two more defensive moves; adding depth to the blue line for the Buffalo Sabres.  If the Buffalo Sabres are interested in keeping Ryan Miller around – shoring up the defense in front of him is a good way to increase his ability.  On his own Ryan Miller hasn’t been the Vezina or Olympic caliber netminder that the Buffalo Sabres have needed.  You put a young, determined, deep defense in front of him, and there is less that will fall on his shoulders.

Day 2 of Free Agency and the Buffalo Sabres tender minor moves.  Smart or safe moves by the team that will likely be at the bottom of their division next season?
