As they try to shore up their rosters for the rest of the summer and the start of training camp, the Buffalo Sabres have signed two more of their restricted free agents.
I’ll give you a hint, one of them isn’t Cody Hodgson.
Today the Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced the team has come to terms with Brian Flynn and Nick Crawford. Brian Flynn joined the Buffalo Sabres last year as a call up under newly promoted head coach Ron Rolston – and scored six goals and eleven points for the Blue and Gold. Flynn gets rewarded with a two year contract Flynn is an undrafted free agent that signed with the Buffalo Sabres in March of 2012, and appeared in 50 games across two seasons with the Rochester Americans before joining the Sabres last season.
Nick Crawford gets a one year deal with the Buffalo Sabres. Crawford has spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres top AHL affiliate, and in 199 games with the Portland Pirates and Rochester Americans scored 18 goals and 72 points.
While this helps shore things up for the Buffalo Sabres – it does leave Cody Hodgson without a contract. Either the Buffalo Sabres are waiting for an offer sheet on Hodgson to match it and save from having to do any negotiations, or they are waiting on an offersheet to stock up on draft picks.
If they know what Hodgson is looking for as far as payment, they could be hoping for the best and almost begging teams to sign him to those numbers.
- $1,110,249 or below – No Compensation
- Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 – 3rd round pick
- Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 – 2nd round pick
- Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 – 1st round pick, 3rd
I can’t see a team paying more than the five million dollar and change cap, but if they did, the Sabres could be looking at more than just a couple of picks.
- Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 – 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
- Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 – Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd
- Over $8,410,976 – Four 1st Round Picks
I see the Sabres getting a first and a third out of a Hodgson offer sheet at best.
