Daily Dasherboard July 31, 2013

There you have it folks, today is the last day of July.  Just one full month without hockey, and the blades start scraping the ice again in anticipation for the 2013-2014 regular season.  What type of season is it going to be for the Buffalo Sabres – a shockingly decent season with a run for the playoffs, or a long and suffering road that will lead to an eventual high draft pick?  My guess is Darcy Regier will take a valiant run at the playoffs late in the season, and end up picking somewhere around the 8-12 area.

The good news on that front is the Buffalo Sabres have one of the best prospect groups in the National Hockey League.  Can they develop into a new core able to win in the NHL?  [Sports Media 101].

I wouldn’t expect a lot of offense this year, the Buffalo Sabres are spending the least amount of money in the NHL on their forwards, which is why we haven’t signed Cody Hodgson to a deal yet.  [Die By The Blade].

At least players will want to play in Buffalo at least once in their lives, to bad its at the collegiate level.  Canisius announces that the HarborCenter will be their new practice and home ice facility.  Odds are that we will host a frozen four before we win the Stanley Cup.  [Buffalo News].

It is only going to get harder to compete for the Stanley Cup.  Reports are getting stronger that the NHL is looking to expand.  Their off kiltered realignment plan is a vague smoke and mirror of unbalance for a reason.  Here we come Seattle.  [Fox News].

Who are the top ten goalies in the leauge right now?  Does Ryan Miller make that list?  Will the goalie of the Buffalo Sabres future be on that list eventually?  [Yahoo Sports -Puck Daddy].

What is your team’s strength going into the 2013-2014 season.  Yep, the Buffalo Sabres have one too.  [Bleacher Report].

Does Tim Thomas want to return to the NHL?  His options are getting limited each day he stays away.  [Bleacher Report].
