Welcome to the Hump!

Yep: it’s Wednesday, which means it’s hump day.  More importantly, it’s August 21, which means we’re less than a month away from professional, albeit preseason, hockey!  Whoo-hoo!  We’re over the hump, folks: the offseason is practically behind us.  Let’s celebrate by going roller blading!

Wait – that’s what I’ll be doing with the kids in a few.  You . . . well, here’s some links!

Here’s a player who is clearly over the hump: Jaromir Jagr, who told the world yesterday that next season might be his last.  [TSN]  Enjoy him while you can!

At least Jagr will see some ice time next season; another oldie-but-a-goodie, Teemu Selanne, may be out of luck, and out of time. [Sporting News]

When it comes to prospects, everyone wants to know which ones are NHL-ready, which ones will take a few years to develop their games, and so on.  Those are pretty important questions.  Or, you could just ask, “Which prospect is actually the fastest on skates?”  Take a look at this attempt to rank the prospects who will spend a lot of time in the NHL’s passing lane. [Bleacher Report]

As most of you know, the Buffalo Sabres are looking to repeat as NHL Prospect Tournament champions this year.  The Sabres won the prospect tournament back in 2011, and have a pretty good chance of enjoying similar success in Travis City, Michigan, beginning on September 5.  Take a look at the full roster the Sabres will be sending to defend their title.  [Hockey Buzz]

Currently, the Buffalo Sabres do not have a true captain listed on their roster.  When the Sabres do designate a captain, will he be good enough to crack this list next year?  [Bleacher Report]

Speaking of which – should Thomas Vanek be the next captain? [Die By The Blade]

Finally, Die By The Blade’s All-Star Sabres team rolls on!

Enjoy your hump!  Errr . . . .
