The Buffalo Sabres have announced today that members of the training camp roster have been assigned to either the Rochester Americans or their respective junior clubs.
Brady Austin and Peter Trainor have been assigned by the Buffalo Sabres to their respective junior clubs – for further seasoning ahead of their professional careers.
Buffalo has also assigned the following players to the Rochester Americans:
- Colin Jacobs
- Connor Knapp
- Alex Lepkowski
- Nathan Lieuwen
- Ercik Locke
- Matt MacKenzie
- Andrey Makarov
- Johnathon McGuire
- Jonathan Parker
- Kevin Sundher
- Shawn Szydlowski
- Frederick Roy
- Nick Crawford
Crawford must clear waivers before he can be officially signed to Rochester.
Prior to these moves the Buffalo Sabres had 56 players on their training camp roster. They have to be down to at least 23 by opening night. These moves bring the Sabres down to 41.
These roster moves means that Buffalo still have three goaltenders available for the regular season; so we can expect to see Hackett more before the end of training camp. So long that Ryan Miller is still on the team come opening night, Hackett is doing nothing more than auditioning for his future at this point – as the starting job in Rochester is most likely his upon his demotion from the Buffalo Sabres.
All of today’s demotions to the American Hockey League and junior team ranks are players that have not dressed in the pre-season to date.
The next action for the Buffalo Sabres is tomorrow, Saturday September 21st at 7PM versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. This weekend features back to back pre season games against the Maple Leafs, with Sundays game taking place at the Air Canada Center.
