Buffalo Sabres PreGame Skate: Toronto Maple Leafs

The pre season is winding to a close and after last nights loss to the same Toronto Maple Leafs – the Buffalo Sabres head north to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Air Canada Centre.

Last night the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres skated to an epic shootout, before the Buffalo Sabres succumbed to the loss.

After Mark Pysyk and Marcus Foligno put the Buffalo Sabres up 2-0, they let the Leafs tie the game in the third period.  The epic 15 round shootout ended with one goal being scored by the Toronto Maple Leafs after the first 29 shooters had failed.

Neither the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres had the full slate of NHL ready players on the ice, for the Buffalo Sabres it was a night of rookies and enforcers.

Tonight, expect the lineups to look slightly different as the team figure out how to make the most of the players remaining on their roster.

With Ryan Miller sitting last game, and Jhonas Enroth playing the complete slate of minutes in last nights game – I would not be surprised if young goalie Matt Hackett gets the nod in net tonight for the Buffalo Sabres.  If he does not, then I would anticipate Ryan Miller getting the complete 60 tonight.

Time is dwindling down for the Buffalo Sabres to make the final roster moves, and there are plenty of decisions that need to be made.

Head coach Ron Rolston has said to expect cuts to be made after this weekends home and home with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Buffalo and Toronto skate into tonight’s contest with identical pre season records, 3-0-1.  Last night was the first pre season loss for the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center in seven games, breaking a 6-0 home winning streak.
