Rochester Americans Open Training Camp

The Rochester Americans open their training camp on September 23, with open practices continuing all week long. The team plays its first preseason game on September 25, hosting the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins.

Of course, the team’s roster for training camp isn’t full, as some players who may be with the Amerks this coming season remain with the Buffalo Sabres in their training camp/preseason mode. But for the time being, fans can get a little sense of some of the players who may be in Rochester this coming season.

Among those on the list are several returning players, including forwards Phil Varone and Frederick Roy and defenseman Nick Crawford. Three goaltenders are attending Amerks training camp, including Connor Knapp and Nathan Lieuwen.

There are several newcomers in Rochester this year, including Eric Locke, who spent last season with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit. Dan Catenacci spent a little time in Rochester at the end of last season after spending most of the year in the OHL. Andrey Makarov, Alex Lepkowski and Johnny McGuire are a few of the other new additions.

As of September 23, the training camp roster for the Rochester Americans is as follows:

  • Forwards: Evan Bloodoff, Dan Catenacci, Alex Hutchings, Colin Jacobs, Eric Locke, Johnny McGuire, Jonathan Parker, Frederick Roy, Tim Schaller, Kevin Sundher, Shawn Szydlowski, Jamie Tardif, Jordy Trottier, Phil Varone
  • Defensemen: Nick Crawford, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Ryan Grimshaw, Tom Janosz, Alex Lepkowski, Matt MacKenzie
  • Goaltenders: Connor Knapp, Nathan Lieuwen, Andrey Makarov

Expect other players to be added to this roster as the Buffalo Sabres training camp continues and more players join the AHL squad.

Monday afternoon, the Buffalo Sabres assigned a number of players to the Amerks: Matt Hackett, Brayden McNabb, Chad Ruhwedel and Mike Zigomanis. Drew Bagnall and Matt Ellis were also reassigned, but must clear waivers.
