Poll: Who Will Lead the Buffalo Sabres in Goals?

The regular season is right around the corner and a lot of the hard decisions have already been made, so it’s time to write about some positive and fun stuff surrounding the Buffalo Sabres this upcoming season. What’s more fun than scoring goals? Especially since your team needs to score goals in order to win games. Today’s poll is pretty simple and you get to play the role of predictor. Just vote for who you think will be the leading scorer for the Sabres this season.

Probably the early favourite to lead the Sabres in scoring would be Thomas Vanek. Whether or not this will be Vanek’s last season

remains unknown but if he remains healthy he should have no problem reaching the 30-goal plateau. A player is said to be in good shape if they reach the 30 goal mark, so having Vanek around 30 is just fine. During the lockout shortened season Vanek scored 20 goals in 38 games… expand that over a full season and that’s over 40 goals.

During the lockout season Cody Hodgson finished 2nd on the Sabres with 15 goals. If you expand that over a full season that’s roughly 30 goals, which makes Hodgson a solid first line centre in today’s NHL. This will be a big year for Hodgson after signing a long-term deal with the Sabres and he will need to take his game to the next level.

What about a player like Tyler Ennis who is rumoured to be in his last season with the blue and gold. During the lockout season Ennis finished 3rd on the Sabres with 10 goals. Expand that over 82 games and that’s around 20 goals which isn’t too bad for a 3rd line player. Ennis is a little ball of speed who has the ability to ignite teammates and produce when called upon. If Ennis can put up around 25 goals, he’ll be a solid player for the Sabres.

Two other candidates to put up goals for the Sabres are Marcus Foligno and Drew Stafford, both of whom had season’s to forget after he lockout. Each heading in their own directions at different stages of their careers will be looking to have bounce back season’s. Foligno is wanting to prove he’s not a one-hit wonder and is capable of playing on the top line with Vanek and Hodgson. While Stafford wants to get his game back on track.

Other candidates to put up solid numbers for the Sabres include Steve Ott and Ville Leino who is still trying to prove he’s worth the money he was given.
