“Excuse me sir, sir it’s time to wake up. You’ve made it, tomorrow is October 1st and you know what that means!” A man with breadcrumbs still on his face and a beer in his hand rolls over; “Hockey is back?!” He yells excitedly. “Yes tomorrow is puck drop sir!” That’s right hockey fans, it’s time to come out of hibernation and get excited because tonight September ends and tomorrow a new NHL season kicks off.
This year all hockey fans can take a deep breath and thank the hockey gods that there is no CBA issues to iron out before the season and thus no impending NHL lockout. Yes, that’s right we’re going to see hockey in September for the first time since September 2011. Oh hockey we’ve missed you, let’s not go through this again okay?
The 2013-2014 NHL campaign kicks off tomorrow when the Toronto Maple leafs head into Montreal to take on the Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres will kick off their campaign on Wednesday night when they square off with the Detroit Red Wings, their newest divisional foes.
Starting right from your own Buffalo Sabres, there are a lot of players with a lot to prove this season. Will whoever get’s the C in Buffalo be able to live up to the expectations and become a solid captain? How will Cody Hodgson perform after his newly signed long-term deal? Will Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller remain in blue and gold after this season? Will Miller crack the Olympic roster? So many questions that will all be answered this season. From Roberto Luongo to Tyler Seguin, there’s no shortage of player story-lines to follow this season.
After a disappointing lockout-shortened season, this is set to be a season to remember. From the new divisional line-ups like Detroit in the East, to the Olympics, to the multitude of outdoor games- this season is going to be full of excitement. Man I’m excited just writing about this upcoming season.
