It has been 159 days since the Buffalo Sabres last laced up their skates for a regular season matchup – and even further back since they played a meaningful hockey game.  That’s all in the past now as they

open up their 44th regular season in the National Hockey League.

I am all for hating hockey teams – I have an unabashed hatred for the Philadelphia Flyers – the hockey team, not the city.  This writer just seemingly wants to hate on every Buffalo because he can, a city to which he has probably never visited.  All I have to say in retort – is 17 seconds Boston, 17 seconds.  [Stanley Cup of Chowder].

What is the point of co-captains?  Steve Ott is not a captain – and it is almost like you are awarding Thomas Vanek on his departure.  [CBS Sports].

Goalies is the one familiarity for the Buffalo Sabres, but a preview series would not be complete without looking at the familiar tandem.  [Die By The Blade].

Paul Hamilton files his opening night report for the Buffalo Sabres.  [WGR550].

Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks on last season – and for starting this year off in banner style, raising a division, conference, President’s Trophy and Stanley Cup banner, then overcoming another deficit to win.  [Chicago Tribune].

If you didn’t get the chance to watch last nights banner raising ceremony, shame on you, but here is a great recap via twitter and several images – congrats Chicago on creating a special moment – well deserved.  Thanks for beating Boston.  [Bleacher Report].

I am not going to turn into a pundit, or advocate for the elimination of fighting from the sport of hockey; but the NHL has its first concussion of the year from a fight, and yes, he kept his helmet on.  [USA Today Sports].
