The Buffalo Sabres have not made it official yet, but the word is out on Twitter, Ville Leino is sidelined with another injury – this time a cracked rib.
Johan Larsson moves in to play center, Tyler Ennis to wing. Ville Leino out indefinitely. #Sabres

It apparently happened in the first period, according to head coach Ron Rolston. If that is the case then Ville Leino played the entire game with the injury. I could see that happening, as Leino was largely ineffective and invisible during the game- and it wasn’t until he skated in front of the camera while on the ice that I even realized he was playing.
The injury paves the way for another youngster to get ice time, as Johan Larsson, who impressed during training camp will move in and play center.
The Buffalo Sabres just got younger.
If Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier was wise, the minute Ville Leino is cleared to play again, something has to be done with Ville Leino. The Sabres could not buyout his contract over the summer because he was still injured and not cleared – but that could change this off season. While it doesn’t help them with the salary cap as you can’t hide players anymore – I am even willing to loan him to a European team or the Rochester Americans – him getting claimed off waivers is just an easy way of getting rid of him as well.
