Sabre Noise readers, I don’t like to brag, but in our last fan prediction thread, and in my podcast, I displayed a level of insight that was downright eerie.
First of all, when it came to picking which Buffalo Sabres player would score his first goal of the season, I went with Cody Hodgson. Bingo!
It gets better, though, as I then went out on a limb during my podcast to predict that the Sabres would score – gasp! – on the power play!
Shut the front door!
(What’s that, you say? I also predicted that the Sabres would win against Tampa Bay? You remember that, do you? Sadly, I must kill you now, and never speak of this again.)
Because of my prescience, I am feeling pretty cocky about my ability to hammer home some predictions for tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. How about you –are you feeling lucky, punk?
Columbus isn’t exactly what you would call a formidable foe, standing at 1-1-0 and giving up three goals per game so far. Of course, the Sabres are scoring at a rate of only one goal per game, versus the 2.5 GPG the Blue Jackets have put up. Something’s gotta give!
The Blue Jackets are led by Marian Gaborik, Brandon Dubinsky, and Jack Johnson, each of whom have tallied two points in two games, and will be relying on goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to regain his Vezina-winning form from last season.
Sabres fans should see Ryan Miller back in goal tonight, a great sign indeed as he has been absolutely lights-out to start the season. Also exciting is the fact that both Thomas Vanek and Cody Hodgson have notched points in each of their last two games. Hopefully, they can keep it up and make the Sabres’ first a formidable one once again.
Questions to ponder:
- How many goals does Miller allow tonight – can he blank the Blue Jackets?
- Will Vanek or Hodgson keep their points streak alive tonight?
- Can Tyler Ennis’ hard work finally pay off in a goal scored?
