Buffalo Sabres Game Day: Fan Prediction Thread!

Sabre Noise readers, I don’t like to brag, but in our last fan prediction thread, and in my podcast, I displayed a level of insight that was downright eerie.

First of all, when it came to picking which Buffalo Sabres player would score his first goal of the season, I went with Cody Hodgson.  Bingo!

It gets better, though, as I then went out on a limb during my podcast to predict that the Sabres would score – gasp! – on the power play!

Shut the front door!

(What’s that, you say?  I also predicted that the Sabres would win against Tampa Bay?  You remember that, do you?  Sadly, I must kill you now, and never speak of this again.)

Because of my prescience, I am feeling pretty cocky about my ability to hammer home some predictions for tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  How about you –are you feeling lucky, punk?

Columbus isn’t exactly what you would call a formidable foe, standing at 1-1-0 and giving up three goals per game so far.  Of course, the Sabres are scoring at a rate of only one goal per game, versus the 2.5 GPG the Blue Jackets have put up.  Something’s gotta give!

The Blue Jackets are led by Marian Gaborik, Brandon Dubinsky, and Jack Johnson, each of whom have tallied two points in two games, and will be relying on goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to regain his Vezina-winning form from last season.

Sabres fans should see Ryan Miller back in goal tonight, a great sign indeed as he has been absolutely lights-out to start the season.  Also exciting is the fact that both Thomas Vanek and Cody Hodgson have notched points in each of their last two games.  Hopefully, they can keep it up and make the Sabres’ first a formidable one once again.

Questions to ponder:

  1. How many goals does Miller allow tonight – can he blank the Blue Jackets?
  2. Will Vanek or Hodgson keep their points streak alive tonight?
  3. Can Tyler Ennis’ hard work finally pay off in a goal scored?

Leave your answers to these below, or go nuts and just start predicting stuff!  Have fun, and Go Sabres!

    I predict . . .

A Sabres win, and a shutout, no less!

    Girgensons will pot another.

Hodgson wand Vanek will both get at least one point tonight.

    Ambitious!

    • Kevin

Haha settle down Rich :D I predict the Sabres will finally get their first win. Ott will score the game winner from Vanek and CHO.

        Too much sugar today, Kevin!

How about we think Positive Rich: How many goals does Miller let in tonight? Are you expecting the worst lol? What is he posts a shutout, give him some props for holding this team in.
I’d love to see Marcus drop the mitts with his brother, especially if their father is in attendance- just for the fun of it.
From his two past rest days you have to think something is ailing Hodgson and he’s shying away from the physical play… I think he has a quite night tonight.
Hope Girgensons has a big night and pots one and I’d love to see Marcus pot one as well.
That being said I say we lose 3-2 to Bobrovsky

I went with a shutout, darn it! :D

      • Caitlin Campbell

hahah fine I’ll give you that! Hopefully Miller stands tall and we get our first W

Last time 2 brothers went at it was when we had Wayne Premieu and he fought his brother Kieth.

          • Caitlin Campbell

We’re due for a brother punch fest then! Make it happen!

          • Jes

If there is a brother combo to do that it’s the Foligno’s. You know what I’d like to see? Jordan, Eric and the other Staal fight Marc Staal 3 on 1 handicap match.

  • Cory Buck

I’m gonna say Marcus Foligno gets a goal. As does Vanek. 2-1 Buffalo.

    • Caitlin Campbell

      Foligno bowl

    My prediction:
Stafford will score the game winner in OT. How’s that for specific?

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

      Specific, and highly unlikely! :D

I give you 1,000,000-1 odds on that one!

      • wolfdoctor

        LOL.

        I played a longshot.

  • Timothy Redinger

If Miller is 100% – he will keep the game close…not only is he in a contract year but he is also playing for Sochi. Its going to be a 2-1 affair either way.

The Sabres beat the Bluejackets twice during the preseason. Why should tonight be any different? Rhetorical question of course! I think of all the teams the Sabres are playing in the month of October, they have the best chance of winning against the Bluejackets. In fact, if do not beat the Bluejackets tonight they may go 0 and 10 to start the season; the competition in the East is just that good.

As for who will score what, I am just not that smart when it comes to those kinds of predictions. When it comes to Miller; however, there is a better than 50 percent chance that he will get his first shutout of the season.

As for Ennis, he works his butt off, but all to naught because he can’t maintain possession and control of the puck

  • Jes

    Sabres will win 4-2 tonight

    1. Miller allows 2 goals tonight
    2. Yes, Vanek lights the lamp twice. Hodgson assists on both.
    3. Ennis might get a goal if he isn’t paired with Stafford but if he is no way Jose. Man that Foligno, Ennis and Stafford outburst late that one season seems so far away now.

  • Jes

Guess who’s back? The real Miller is standing up tonight lol aahh whole team sure is sucking.
