Through six games the Buffalo Sabres have not been able to find a win so far, gaining one point in the standings by taking one game to overtime before falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In four of the games the Buffalo Sabres have stayed relatively close, but have allowed their opponents to outshoot their way to victory.
Buffalo remains one of two teams still looking for their first win, with the New Jersey Devils struggling as well.
Tonight the Buffalo Sabres will face off in a 7:30 contest with the Minnesota Wild – a game that will be featured on national television – as the game will be featured on the NBC Sports Network.
The Sabres have not fared well at home against the Wild – going 2-4-0 in their six home games against the Wild. Buffalo is 7-5-0 against the Wild all time.
Jhonas Enroth will get the start in net tonight, Enroth was in net for the Tampa Bay game which saw the Sabres get their lone point in the standings.
Tonight also marks the return of former captain Jason Pominville, who will appear in Buffalo for the first time since being traded away last season.
This is the fourth home game for the Buffalo Sabres – who are so far 0-2-1 at First Niagara Center. This is only the second game away from Minnesota for the Wild; and they are still looking for their first road win.
Henrik Talinder was back on the ice for practice tonight and will likely be partnered back with Tyler Myers and Alexander Sulzer will be paired with Rasmus Ristolainen while Mike Weber is expected to be on the outside looking in for the second straight game. Mikhail Grigorenko will be back in the line-up again as he looks for his first point this season.
This is a winnable game for the winless Buffalo Sabres who are playing a 2-1-2 Wild team. If the Sabres can get a solid first period and Enroth can hold off the opposition the Sabres should be able to wear down the Wild. Can the Sabres notch their first win tonight?
