Video: Buffalo Sabres Key To Winning is Dancing

When most teams sit 1-7-1 after their first 9 games you would expect their practices to be pretty grueling. Perhaps a bag skate, push ups, laps or even just a tougher inspection for all drills, but Ron Rolston has a different method for a team that win. What is Rolston’s method? Well you’ll have to check out this video http://instagram.com/p/fnXIIVgXvd/ to find out.

Yes, you saw correctly, the Buffalo Sabres ended practice on Friday with a rookie dance-off. Maybe Mikhail Grigorenko can use his moves to help him on the scoreboard. Which rookie had the best moves at practice? The twerking, diving Zemgus Girgensons.

Now there’s a lot of mixed emotions about the Sabres dance battle at the end of practice but I think it was an awesome idea. When a team isn’t winning they aren’t having any fun and what’s more fun that a dance-off?

“They were just trying to get some energy going, have some fun”  ~ Ron Rolston

There is no better way to lift the pressure than having some fun at practice. If you listened to the post game comments from last night’s game you can tell the Sabres are frustrated, they need something to lighten the mood and since they’re not winning, why not try dancing? Why harp on the negative? the players already know they have to be better and at least for now they can smile.

What do you think of the Buffalo Sabres dance off? Do you like Rolston’s attempt to keep the mood light despite the Buffalo Sabres poor play or do you think they should be working harder?

Honestly, I think it’s dumb. Call me old-fashioned! If I was a coach who actually wanted to do something like that, I sure wouldn’t have them do it at an open practice. The team doesn’t need to harp on the negative, but they don’t need to look like an amateur squad, either.

Richard, you need to chill out a little. Just because the Sabres are the worst team in the league doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have a little fun once in while; it’s not like game night is enjoyable and probably seems interminable more often than not.

Well, I don’t need to chill out – I’m not stark raving angry over it! I just think it’s silly. Lighten the mood behind doors – who cares? But having that video on the internet doesn’t make the Sabres look less like the laughingstock the league already thinks they are.

could we honestly become anymore of a laughingstock at this point in time? lol

The team is terrible. The coaches know it, the players know it and the fans know it. Why not have a little fun while being terrible? Who cares what others think?

          • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

I care, since it would be nice for a free agent or two to ever consider coming to Buffalo. :D

          • wolfdoctor

I think free agents are smart enough to disregard 10 minutes of fun.

10 minutes of amateur hour. Eh – everyone can disagree with me. I’m not posting a rant, because it’s not a big deal. I just think it’s dumb. Moving on!

    • Caitlin Campbell

I’m honestly on the fence about the dance-off. I know they should be working hard and taking everything seriously but with the amount of negativity and the tenseness around the team, I htink they needed a laugh or something to lighten the mood.

Rich : They are an amateur squad. Its the Amerik’s plus a few vets.. just saying.. ;)

    R. Lee Ermey needs to learn how to skate! He could whip these kids into playing like an NHL all-star team :D

It wasn’t like the whole team did it, just the pros ragging on the rookies. Most of it takes place behind closed doors and when you can see what’s going on with the hazing it’s pretty fun to watch. And they didn’t dance for like the whole practice, Sure it was like a 10 minute break. Lol people need to calm down.

    • Caitlin Campbell

I was pretty amused, it’s always good to have fun with the rookies

Shows me that Girgs is pretty agile. Nothing wrong with having a little fun at the end of practice. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!” or maybe it is “All work and no play really makes Jack a dull boy!”
Either way – perhaps it will light a spark!
