Buffalo Sabres vs. Florida Panthers: Fan Prediction Thread

Focus, Buffalo Sabres fans, focus!

Feb 28, 2013; Sunrise, FL, USA; Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller (30) makes a save on a shot by Florida Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau (11) in a shootout at the BB

Today is a game day, so release all of the discontent that has built up in your systems so far and take comfort in the fact that today is a brand new day.

And the Florida Panthers are a pretty terrible team.

That’s right – the Sabres are in the Sunshine state tonight, playing the first of back-to-back games against teams who failed to make the playoffs last year, too.

Buffalo may have the worst record in the NHL right about now, but the Florida Panthers are . . . well, they are the Florida Panthers, owners of a 3-6-1 record a measly 2.1 goals per game offense, and a generous defense that allows 3.4 goals per game.  Rejoice!  Them’s favorable numbers, Sabres fans.

For some reason, Buffalo struggled against the Panthers last season, but desperate times call for people trying to keep their jobs, and you have to think – you have to! – that the Sabres are going to scratch, crawl, and fight to do whatever it takes to eke out a win tonight.

Questions to consider:

1. How many goals do the Sabres put up against a fairly porous defense?

2. Who wins the shots-on-goal tally for period one, the Sabres or the Panthers?

3. Anyone score their goal of the season tonight?

Hop right in and let the fur, and the fun, start flying!  GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!!

In my podcast, I picked the Sabres to win tonight and tomorrow night, and I am going to stick with those picks (for now). Sabres will score 4 tonight and allow 2, with Vanek and Girgensons scoring, plus a few other players (I am not going to try and predict them all!). Shots in the first will be nearly dead even. Sabres win!!! Or so I say.

I hate to burst your bubble but, the Sabres do not have a good track record on their Florida trips over the years. I see nothing to change that this season either. I am not going to predict, I am just going to sit back and pray B-)

        Eat THAT, Kevin!!!!!!! :D

This is a winable game for the Sabres tonight… the question is just what team shows up and will they show up in time? They always play themselves out of the game by being asleep for the first 25 minutes till they’re already down by 1. I think the Sabres continue to get outshot in the first period but I’m hoping they can squeak out a win tonight.

Yes it is and the Sabres keep breaking my heart

Cait, don’t expect them to win and you won’t get your heart broken!

I almost hope they keep losing so something will get done on a front office clean out

      Valid point!

Buffalo might squeak it out but if we do it’s overtime again.

    Sabres win 5-1

    1. Sabres will put up 5 goals tonight.
    2. Panthers will win the shots on goal battle in the first period.
    3. I see Ott and Ehrhoff getting there first goal of the year.

    • Caitlin Campbell

Someone is a little hopeful lol I hope they do smoke the Panthers

    I predict a victory.

I expect a good 1st period, and a really good first shift. I think having Stafford off the first line, and a couple days off, will make for a good first shift that resonates through the game.

I think it will be close, however.. 1st period I think shots are Buffalo:8 Fla:6

Final score I think will be 4-3 Buffalo..

Vanek, Girgensons, Foligno, and Larsson with the goals.

Zadorov for another good game, maybe an assist!

Barkov, Fleischman, and Huberdau i think all score for FLA.

    Total shot Fla:22 Sabres : 26

Yeah we’re getting way outshot but it’s 1-1 after two….anybody’s game. (That includes us!) Meanwhile, it’s alway nice to see one of our kids get his first NHL goal.
