The Rochester Americans look to rebound after suffering a 4-3 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday as the team prepares to face the Toronto Marlies tonight.Friday’s game was a hard overtime loss for the Rochester Americans, who scored three goals in the second period but eventually lost in overtime. Brayden McNabb, Luke Adam and Frederick Roy scored for Rochester, with Hamilton goals coming from Louis Leblanc (2), Magnus Nygren and former Amerks forward Nick Tarnasky. Rochester Americans goaltender Nathan Lieuwen allowed four goals on 32 shots faced, including the overtime winner just 1:26 into the extra frame.

Coming off the loss, the Amerks will face the Toronto Marlies, who currently sit at the top of the North Division – tied with the Bulldogs. The Amerks are just one point out of this tie, so a regulation win in tonight’s game would put them in sole possession of first place in the division. The Marlies have a 4-2-0-0 record and are coming off a loss to Rockford on October 23. The Rochester Americans, meanwhile, are 3-2-1-0 and have at least a point in each of their last three games.

Leading the way for the Marlies this season is a player that the Amerks are very familiar with – former Rochester defenseman T.J. Brennan, who has eight goals and four assists for 12 points in six games this season. Brennan’s season thus far includes a pair of hat tricks, three power play goals and a team-leading 24 shots on goal.

Right winger Spencer Abbott is another player to watch, as he has no goals but eight assists in five games. Defenseman John-Michael Liles also have five points and is a plus-4 in six games played. The Amerks will have to watch the Marlies’ defensemen this evening as they’ve been producing a good portion of the team’s offense so far this season. Marlies captain Trevor Smith has been called up to the Leafs numerous times, as has Marlies right winger Carter Ashton.

Meanwhile, center Luke Adam and Phil Varone are tied for the Rochester Americans’ lead in points, with eight each. Adam has six goals in as many games, while Varone has a team-leading seven assists. Defenseman Jerome Gauthier-Leduc has five points (1-4) on the season, while Mike Zigomanis, Alexander Sulzer, Brayden McNabb and Chad Ruhwedel all have four points each on the season so far.

Tonight’s game marks the second meeting of the season between the Toronto Marlies and the Rochester Americans. The teams last met on October 18 in Rochester, when the Amerks took a 4-1 victory and handed the Marlies their first loss of the season. Luke Adam had a goal and two assists in the win, while Nathan Lieuwen stopped 36 of 37 shots faced.

The Marlies and Amerks will face each other six more times after tonight’s meeting, with the next match-up coming on November 30th in Toronto.
