Farewell Thomas Vanek - A Look At His Numbers

Thomas Vanek is no longer a member of the Buffalo Sabres – and is currently preparing to depart Buffalo for the New York Islanders.  In just a

blink of an eye – a stunning trade within the state of New York has ended the career of Thomas Vanek in Buffalo, and halted what would have been – what has been a great run in a Buffalo Sabres uniform.  Here is the by the numbers look at Thomas Vanek’s career with the Buffalo Sabres.

Vanek played in 634 games wearing the blue and gold, that’s 598 regular season games, and 36 playoff contests.  He was the teams active leader in games played; and was 20th all time on the list in regular season games played.

Danny Gare can rest easy, he will remain at number four on the all time goal scorers list in Buffalo – Thomas Vanek ends his run to number one short of Gare’s mark of 267.  Thomas Vanek will sit on the list in fifth 254 goals.

Vanek’s 240 assists gets him just shy of the top ten, he levels out and ends his time with the Buffalo Sabres at 13th on the list.

With his goals and assists – he ends his time in Buffalo as the tenth highest point getting in Buffalo Sabres history.

Thomas Vanek was traded to the New York Islanders on October 27th, 2013 for Matt Moulson and a first round draft pick (2014) and a second round draft pick (2015).

Farewell Thomas Vanek – and best of luck in Long Island, and good luck on July 1, 2014 if you don’t resign in New York.
