With very little to look forward to as the Buffalo Sabres rebuild – I figured it would be a good time to dig into the deep history of the Buffalo Sabres
and offer up for your reading pleasure a history lesson – this date in Buffalo Sabres history.
November 5 – Buffalo has played 21 games on this date, and has come away with a 10-9-2 record. Some memorable moments from Buffalo Sabres history on this date:
The Buffalo Sabres will face off against the San Jose Sharks tonight at 10:30PM EST – this is not the first time these teams have faced off on November 5th. In 1992 the teams skated in San Jose – for the fifth meeting between the two teams. The Sharks got their first win against the Buffalo Sabres in a wide open 7-5 victory.
How will tonight’s contest compare to that 12 point night?
Fast forward a bit to 2006. You know what happened on November 5th of that year? Buffalo Sabres debuted the likes of Drew Stafford against the New York Rangers. Stafford was called up from the Rochester Americans early in the season to replace the injured Maxim Afinogenov. Stafford made history that night becoming just the second player in NHL history to record a point in overtime as the Buffalo Sabres won the game 4-3 over the Rangers.
Stafford got an assist on the game winning goal scored by Danny Briere. Stafford went on to play 41 games for the Sabres that season getting 13 goals and 14 assists – and never saw Rochester again after that season.
