It appears that the curse of the Buffalo Sabres captaincy is on the verge of striking one more time. With teams looking to solidify their rosters
amid injuries and openings, the Sabres’ rebuilding ways have many players in Blue and Gold available at the right price.
Who else though – is deemed trade eligible by the Buffalo Sabres? It sounds like anyone on the team is fair game lately – including existing team captain Steve Ott.
Rumors are swirling that several teams are interested in the services of the Buffalo Sabres gritty forward – and that despite his willingness and supposed love for the city and team that traded Derek Roy for him – may be on the move again.
Take it for what you will – but Eklund reported on Monday that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks are interested in Steve Ott. It would not be the first time rumors surfaced regarding Buffalo and Tampa. Any deal with Chicago would come closer to the deadline.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in play here as well, as they will be looking to replace David Bolland who will be out indefinitely after having surgery and Tyler Bozak. Could Toronto be looking for Steve Ott to fill that 3rd line center role and help with the faceoff void that is plaguing the Maple Leafs?
Eklund also is reporting that the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders are still talking. Could they be talking Ryan Miller – who obviously would like to be headed West?
There are lots of questions that no amount of rumors are going to help quash – in fact it is only going to make it worse.
What I do know is that the Buffalo Sabres have a lot of problems to resolve – and aging unrestricted free agents – Matt Moulson, Ryan Miller, Steve Ott, Cody McCormick, John Scott, and Henrik Tallinder – may be playing their final games in a Buffalo Sabres sweater.
