Fourteen total games have been played by the Buffalo Sabres on the eighth of November – and the Buffalo Sabres have a winning record – 7-3-4 all

time on this date.

Just a couple of noteworthy news items to talk about happening today in the annals of sports history.

Danny Gare makes the headlines today as he scores two goals against the Washington Capitals to earn both teams a point as the teams skated to a 3-3 tie in 1980.  What was special about Gare’s two goals?  Well it only takes him ten seconds to score them.  Hey St. Louis – maybe he skated right to the faceoff circle after scoring to show that he was not happy with just one.  Gare didn’t come close to a record in the league – as Nels Stewart scored two goals just four seconds apart in 1931 (it would be repeated in 1995 by Deron Quint).  Nathan Gerbe holds the Buffalo Sabres record for fastest two goals – and almost tying the NHL record when he scored two goals in five seconds against the New York Islanders.

Corey Tropp also makes the Buffalo Sabres record books on this day in Sabres history – just two years ago in 2011 he scored his first NHL goal against the Winnipeg Jets as the Buffalo Sabres skated to a 6-5 overtime victory.

Will more history be made tonight as the Buffalo Sabres look to get back on a winning track against the Anaheim Ducks?

A fitting song for the 8th of November just before the memorial of Veteran’s Day. Have a safe and somber weekend.
