Good morning hockey fans – and Happy Veterans Day – and Remembrance Day for our Canadien friends. Today the Rochester Americans take on the Lake Erie Monsters in a matinee affair starting at 3:05.
Its a day full of distractions for a team that is trying to overcome the brutal spanking befeld on them Saturday as the Binghamton Senators trumped the Amerks 7-3. The Amerks are not just trying to overcome Saturday’s lost – but trying to brake a two game losing streak losing both games against the B-Sens this weekend.
This will be the first meeting of the season for the Lake Erie Monsters and the Rochster Americans – and it will happen in front of a television audience as Time Warner Sports will broadcast the Veterans day matinee.
While the on ice product is important as the Amerks try to stop the skid – just prior to the game the Rochester based hockey club will be unveiling the special jerseys the team will wear on December 13th for the Frozen Frontier game – that will also feature the Lake Erie Monsters.
While not struggling like their parent club in Buffalo – Rochester is holding on the a precarious position in the Western Conference standings – tied with four teams at 13 points and barely holding on to the 7th place position in the standings. Lake Erie has the same number of wins as the Amerks – and are just looking to climb into the standings race that will see them race into the playoffs standings.
Leading the Rochester Americans on the score sheet is Luke Adam with nine goals – while Phil Varone leads the team with 14 points.
While the Amerks skate into today’s matchup trying to stop a two game losing streak in it’s tracks, Lake Erie is looking to prevent a two game losing streak. Lake Erie is coming off a home and home with the Utica Comets where they outscored Utica 6-3, but dropped the second game 3-2 after shutting the Comets out.
Lake Erie is providing the Amerks with a familiar foe early in the season. After today’s game – the teams will face off again on November 29th – before skating. As the December Frozen Frontier game creeps up on the 13 – the teams will also skate in Rochester at the Blue Cross Arena on December 11th. The teams also skate on a home and home series the following weekend on the 20th and 21st.
After the game the team will also host a postgame skate where fans can skate on the ice at the Blue Cross Arena for one hour after the game. The event is free, but fans are asked to bring their own skates and helmets – as rentals are not available. There will be a skate check at the arena for fans to drop off their skates while they enjoy the game.
