#1 What to Do With Ryan Miller?
It is widely known – sorry, assumed, because I have never heard Miller himself come right out and say it – that Miller would prefer to play for a championship-contending team, preferably one out west. Clearly, when Regier was the GM, players such as Jason Pominville, Thomas Vanek, and Ryan Miller were viewed as currency. When the time, and the player’s values, were right, Regier would work the phones and pull the trigger on trades that sent these players packing in exchange for draft picks that Regier planned on using during his version of a team rebuild.
Now that Darcy is gone, though, does this mean that there will be an effort to convince Miller to remain in town? Has the relationship between the Sabres and their starting netminder soured so badly that reconciliation is no longer an option? Does Miller still view the time frame required for this team to become a legitimate threat to be successful in the playoffs too wide? This is the storyline I am the most interested in following now that Ted Nolan and Pat LaFontaine are in the system.
