The new era in Buffalo began on a positive note as Ted Nolan led the Sabres to victory over their Toronto rivals in the first of a home-and-home. Steve Ott made a dramatic return scoring a goal and setting up Marcus Foligno while Christian Ehrhoff made his best Ryan Miller imitation and scored in the empty night.

The Sabres skated hard, hustled and battled back from a 1-0 hole early on. Nolan had the team looking awfully good and the future in Buffalo began to look good with Nolan leading the way.
