Sabre Noise Podcast #7: Public Enemy

Oh, Sabre Noise readers – you let me down yesterday!

Whereas Colton Orr bravely flew through the air, Superman-like, to defend his captain, Dion Phaneuf, who apparently was in grave danger Saturday evening, none of you rushed to my rescue as hordes of angry Toronto Maple Leafs fans swarmed out of whatever hives they were living in to attack my writing yesterday afternoon.

And I thought you had my back.

I’m kidding, of course; I’m a big boy, and take my lumps when my writing has struck a nerve.  It was pretty amusing, however, checking into the site during my lunch and reading some of the things that were being said about me.    Some readers were nice enough to say, “No offense,” right before they swore at me, but most just went for the jugular.

What they forgot in all of the chaos was that, by attacking the site, they were actually supporting it with their visits!  So I thank my angry neighbors to the North for that much.

So – what’s new in this podcast?  I do touch on the reaction from Leafs fans – how could I not?  I also discuss ted Nolan’s decision to reassign Nikita Zadorov, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Mikhail Grigorenko.  Finally, I preview the two games on this week’s schedule for the Buffalo Sabres and throw out my two cents as to which games I think are winnable for the Sabres.

Enough from me – here’s the moment you have all been waiting for: the podcast!

Sorry Rich, I honestly stopped reading after a few of those comments. I don’t think anyone got what you were saying about the whole Maple Leafs logo thing including me. But I did come to your defense later on along with Dano.If you didn’t say that Logo thing, crisis would’ve been averted.

I know I hate it when people do that no offense thing. I remember when I first started posting on here one guy who started up with me all started with a “No Offense” followed by an insult.

I knew you’d see it my way Rich, I told you they are the ones who are saying you don’t have readers and they somehow “accidently” stumbled upon your site by accident? Lol ya they can say as much but guaranteed they are regulars on this site.

1st time I actually listened to a PodCast. Some good stuff. Sorry for not coming to your defense earlier.

Here’s what I learned: obviously, Canadians take the Leaf symbol very seriously. I was literally discussing the idea of a leaf falling, in order to poke fun at Phaneuf, but clearly a bunch of people took offense and acted as if I was making fun of the Canadian flag. I sort of get it – national symbol – but the USA’s national symbol is stars and stripes, and if you made fun of a team named the Stars, I would not go ballistic and accuse you of trashing the entire country.

Lesson learned about that much, at least! And no one has to worry about not defending me – seriously, I enjoyed the challenge!
