Sabre Noise Fan Chatter Thread: Sabres - Red Wings

Before I get into the fan chatter thread, let me voice one complain to Gary Bettman and the NHL: five o’clock start times suck.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way – it’s game day!

The Buffalo Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings tonight . . . er, this evening, in a game that will hopefully remembered more for a Buffalo Sabres’ win than for the atrocious golden third sweater that the team will be unveiling tonight, dammit, this evening! diff

Man, you wouldn’t think those two hours would make a difference, but that’s smack dab in the middle of my dinner.  I’m really not feelin’ this.

It’s not secret that interim coach Ted Nolan was not pleased with his team’s play Thursday night in Philadelphia, as he went so far as to sat that the endless parade to the penalty box will stop, or the players committing those penalties will not be playing.  It’s about time that someone in the organization started holding players accountable for their quality of play.  Will that be enough to motivate this team to hustle, play smart, and stay out of the sin bin tonight?  That’s one storyline we should all be following.

While the Detroit Red Wings sound like a formidable opponent, the truth is, over the last ten games, the Sabres have won more games (3) than the Red Wings have (2).  Of course, the Red Wings have also gone into overtime in five out of those ten, whereas the Sabres have just flat-out lost seven, so numbers can be deceiving.  Still: the Red Wings are not playing the type of hockey one would normally associate with Detroit, so let’s hope the Sabres can continue to make Red Wings everywhere miserable.

Questions to consider:

1. What’s your over/under for penalties tonight, since Nolan specifically addressed this issue after the loss to the Flyers?

2. Can Matt Moulson re-emerge from the black hole of uselessness he has sunken into since Nolan arrived in ton?

3. There are numerous players who have yet to score a goal this season.  Does anyone break through this evening?

Let’s chat it up, and then keep the conversation going on Twitter @sabrenoise!  Let’s go Buffalo!
