Sabre Noise Fan Chatter Thread: Sabres - Red Wings

Before I get into the fan chatter thread, let me voice one complain to Gary Bettman and the NHL: five o’clock start times suck.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way – it’s game day!

The Buffalo Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings tonight . . . er, this evening, in a game that will hopefully remembered more for a Buffalo Sabres’ win than for the atrocious golden third sweater that the team will be unveiling tonight, dammit, this evening! diff

Man, you wouldn’t think those two hours would make a difference, but that’s smack dab in the middle of my dinner.  I’m really not feelin’ this.

It’s not secret that interim coach Ted Nolan was not pleased with his team’s play Thursday night in Philadelphia, as he went so far as to sat that the endless parade to the penalty box will stop, or the players committing those penalties will not be playing.  It’s about time that someone in the organization started holding players accountable for their quality of play.  Will that be enough to motivate this team to hustle, play smart, and stay out of the sin bin tonight?  That’s one storyline we should all be following.

While the Detroit Red Wings sound like a formidable opponent, the truth is, over the last ten games, the Sabres have won more games (3) than the Red Wings have (2).  Of course, the Red Wings have also gone into overtime in five out of those ten, whereas the Sabres have just flat-out lost seven, so numbers can be deceiving.  Still: the Red Wings are not playing the type of hockey one would normally associate with Detroit, so let’s hope the Sabres can continue to make Red Wings everywhere miserable.

Questions to consider:

1. What’s your over/under for penalties tonight, since Nolan specifically addressed this issue after the loss to the Flyers?

2. Can Matt Moulson re-emerge from the black hole of uselessness he has sunken into since Nolan arrived in ton?

3. There are numerous players who have yet to score a goal this season.  Does anyone break through this evening?

Let’s chat it up, and then keep the conversation going on Twitter @sabrenoise!  Let’s go Buffalo!

I am tempted to steal Jes’ standard 5-1 pick . . . but I’m going to go 3-1, Sabres. I have no idea why. I look for the Sabres to commit less than five penalties tonight. Again, I couldn’t explain why I feel this way – blind faith, I guess!!!

    • Jes

Lol common Rich make that 5-1 predictions. It makes you feel good just before the puck drops then all hell breaks loose. It’s great for that few hour high though;).

  • Dano

2-1, maybe 4 goals total between the 2 teams. Im going on the ‘ over ‘ for penalties. Detroit likes to dive.

  • Caitlin Campbell

4-2 Wings and the Sabres take a whack of penalties… Myers doesn’t know how to play disciplined and as Dano said the Wings are fast team that likes to drive the net and the Sabres have abunch of lazy guys who like to hook and trip.

    • JHizzle75

I think if Myers takes a penalty he will watch the rest of the game from the bench

3-2 Wings, winning in the shootout. I’m trying to extend my winning streak to 2 games, having predicted the 4-1 loss to Philadelphia. Sabres take 4 minor penalties tonight.

    • Richard Spalding

I would chastise you for winning at the Sabres’ expense . . . but someone around here has to put together a win streak!!!!

      • wolfdoctor

        Ha ha

Another prediction : Sabres take defenseman Ekblad with their #1 pick. That will give you loads of material for your columns, next summer.

        • Jes

lol I can just see Rich just typing up columns right now for next year just in case that happens.

          • Richard Spalding

            Har har, you two!

  • Jes

    Sabres win 5-1.

    1. I believe we will commit less than 5 penalties also Rich but it will be back to much of the same in the next game.

    2. Moulson will not get it going. Sadly as long as Nolan is here I don’t see either Moulson or Hodgson putting up nearly the same numbers that they were before he arrived.

    3. Maybe Luke Adam gets a goal tonight?

  • JHizzle75

    1. Less than 5 penalties
    2. Moulson gets a goal and an apple
    3. I like Luke Adam to get a goal.

If you can’t put off your dinner for awhile or order some pizza or something
for an occasional early start you have no right to call yourself a hockey fan.

    • Richard Spalding

Ah, my new troll! Do you think I was honestly serious? Please don’t come around if all you plan on doing is posting stuff in order to start an argument.
