The almighty dollar – in this case; the Canadian dollar is more important to Rick Dudley than joining the Buffalo Sabres.

Rick Dudley agrees to more lucrative deal to stay with Canadiens after Sabres approach Mtl for permission to talk to Duds re: GM job. #TSN

It makes you wonder how high on the list of candidates that Pat Lafontaine started out with. With a new man in the wings to help rebuild the scouting department, the Buffalo Sabres remain without a general manager, but aren’t shying away from making personnel moves without a GM in place. Dudley appeared to be the favorite to get the job in Buffalo – given his former ties to the team (which seems to be a major resume factor). Apparently Rick Dudley is happy in Montreal and Marc Bergevin values him as a member of the organization.
Today the Buffalo Sabres announced that they have waived Corey Tropp in the hopes of reassigning him back to Rochester, a move made necessary by the fact that the Sabres claimed Matt D’Agostini from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Smart hockey moves or more shuffling of piece while we wait for a new steward to run the ship for the Sabres?
