Let’s face it it’s not a lot of fun to a fan of the Buffalo Sabres right now and as a result the atmosphere at the First Niagara Centre has become more like a funeral than a hockey rink. It’s quiet, there are tons of empty seats, fans leave early and the team on the ice is often boo’d off the ice.

Here’s 2 tweets to sum up the atmosphere at Buffalo Sabres home games;

The Buffalo Sabres need to find a way to put fun back into attending Sabres games and while winning would definitely help, We can’t control that. So I’ve come up with a list of things the Sabres can do to get fans having a good time at the rink.

It’s funny that so called “Gold Out” would basically be gold for the fans and blue for the empty seats lol.

Also whatever happened to SabreTooth? He used to be on TV and shit lighting up the atmosphere during games, I don’t think I’ve noticed him at all for a very long time. I’ve never been to a game in person at FNC so I wouldn’t really know what goes on in there. But in all seriousness the only thing that will improve fan atmosphere is winning, or at least score more then a goal a game.

      “Also whatever happened to SabreTooth?”

He used to repell down to the ice on a cable, use that t-shirt canon and beat a drum around the arena.. Hes been seen as many times as the Sabres have scored this year LOL!

I was at a game and he totally got stuck when he was repelling down. Poor Sabre-tooth was just hanging there about 10ft off the ice. He made the best of it, acting all embarrassed once he finally got down.

        That explains it Dano. Lol

Good idea make Sabretooth more available and give him a bigger role- he’s huge among the fans

IMO they can start by not removing the shot counter and penalty clock from banner under the jumbo-tron during the periods. I’ve been to a few games and while I’m watching during a pk or pp, I find myself glancing up to the tron to see how much time remains in the penalty, since where I sit I can’t see the scoreboard behind the nets, and all I see is an constant ad for “Sabers Blueprint,” whatever the ***k that is.

    • Caitlin Campbell

hmm I didn’t even notice they did that. Sabres blue print ad is for the future of the team apparently

Get rid of the loud rock music every time there is a stoppage of play. If I was the owner, that would be the very first thing I would do.

    • Caitlin Campbell

hahah what kind of music would you like to hear?

      • wolfdoctor

No music at all. I don’t believe the fans need to be “entertained” every second they are there. I’m old and am old school. A lot of fans my age find this music extremely annoying. People your age have never known anything else but the loud music interludes. I don’t think it is necessary and prevents you from talking to the people near you. I even find it annoying when watching TV. To me the Montreal game the other day was barely tolerable.

I love going to Sabres games, and I try to attended a few throughout the season. I usually get the itch a few weeks after the season starts to pick up some tickets…but not this season. I have said this before, it is the only way I can protest my displeasure with the organization right now. Last season I took my gf to a game, I bought tickets in the 1st row in the 300 level. Cheap, and there is no one in front of me. We ended up winning tickets about 5 rows off the glass before the game even started at the NY Lotto booth. Bought $10 in lotto, got to spin a wheel. I won the last pair, and it was awesome!! I have so many awesome memories between going to the Aud as a youngin’ with my Dad and the FNC (or HSBC or Marine Midland Arena lol). It sucks that because the only way I feel we can be heard as fans is to not spend a single penny on tickets and merchandise, I am foregoing one of my most cherished memory building life events. I know my ramble was a bit off topic thanks for reading if ya stayed til the end!

Their is really only one thing the Sabres can do to improve fan atmosphere – WIN SOME GAMES!

    • Caitlin Campbell

      Yup… pretty much

  • jimbobv2

Most visiting fans get their tickets via the secondary market (read: StubHub).

With the team turning unwatchable, boatloads of STHs are viewing their season tickets as investments and they are selling their tickets to the highest bidder.

There is no real way to stop this outside of improving the roster.

The rest of the ideas are just distracting people with shiny things because the on ice product is rancid.

    • Caitlin Campbell

yeah at this point that’s really all the Buffalo Sabres can do…

  • BryanD

Put a better team on the ice..one that can win more than just 6 games at half season….then we wont be so glum. Not rocket science
