A night after being the hero for the Rochester Americans at the Frozen Frontier, Matt Ellis has been recalled by the Buffalo Sabres
ahead of their game at 2 on Saturday. Ellis has served as the Amerks captain this season and has put up 10 points. This will be his first recall since the beginning of last season where he played 6 games.
Ellis was in action last night when his Amerks took the game outdoors for the AHL’s version of the Winter Classi. He scored one goal in regulation, assisted on another goal and notched the shootout winner in the sixth round for the Amerks, earning him the honour of the first star.
Ellis has been Buffalo Sabres property since they claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings in 2008. Since then Ellis has played in 197 games putting up 33 points with the Buffalo Sabres.
It is expected that Ellis will either fill in Mikhail Grigorenko‘s spot while the Russian is at the World Junior Championship or fill in for Cody Hodgson who is likely more hurt than originally believed.
While Ellis isn’t the biggest game changer you can have in your line-up, he is one of those players who gives an honest effort every night for his team. Hopefully the work ethic and dedication of Matt Ellis will rub off on some of the younger players and they continue to play a full 60 minute game.
Matt Ellis will be in the line-up today when the Sabres take on the Calgary Flames this afternoon.
