This Day In Buffalo Sabres History: December 14

The Buffalo Sabres have played 20 times on the 14th of December, amassing a 11-6-3 record.  Tonight when the Sabres faceoff against the Calgary Flames they will be playing in their 21st game on December 14th.  The Sabres will be looking not only to add to their 11 wins on this day, but to also stop themselves from losing back to back games which is something they do quite frequently this year.

On this day back in 2005, the focus was on Martin Biron.  While we focused on the fact that Dominik Hasek loved to shutout his opponents in our last history feature, today we mark the eighth anniversary of Martin Biron’s 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars.  The win was his eleventh win in a row. Biron would add consecutive wins in his next two starts to run his winning streak to thirteen straight games.

Martin Biron was recently featured on an episode of Beyond Blue & Gold, and has setup his residency in Buffalo while he was playing here.  With Biron’s love for the game of hockey and his affection for the area – the recently retired alumni of the Buffalo Sabres could end up playing a more prominent role in the organization either from a broadcasting standpoint or with the hockey academy that will be house in the new HarborCenter.

I doubt anyone will complain, given Biron’s status as a fan and media favorite.
