This Day In Buffalo Sabres History - December 27

We finally get back into hockey action tonight as the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs are set to square off at the Air Canada Centre.  This will be the 20th game in the history of the franchise the Sabres have played on December 20th.

So far, luck has been on the side of the Sabres for the most part, as they have a combined 11-7-1 record.

John Scott is on the verge of a historic moment in his career.  The next game that he suits up for will be the enforcers 200th game in the National Hockey League.

The Washington Capitals are a favorite opponent of the Sabres in late December as the calendar year comes to a close during the regular season.  In 2003 the Sabres met the Caps and defeated them 3-1.  The importance of that game, it was the first and only game of the 2003-2004 season for this player who would go on to play in 578 games for the Sabres including 4 straight 82 game seasons without injury.  That’s right – on this day in 2003 former captain Jason Pominville skated in Blue and Gold for the first time ever.

Fast forward five years, and the opponent stays the same, and Miroslav Satan gets a goal and three assists getting a point on every Sabres goal, as the Sabres defeat the Capitals 3-1 again on December 27th.

Maybe the New York Rangers would be interested in trading opponents for tonight – as the Sabres take on the Maple Leafs for second straight win.
