Hard work has paid off for Ryan Miller. Despite the poor play of the Buffalo Sabres to start the season, play that has them occupying the 30th
place in the standings – Miller has had a strong season and has put up impressive numbers.
His goal, most likely tradability as he seeks a new contract after this season, but also to gain retribution, as he had to settle for Silver at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
Announced today was the Team USA roster at the Winter Classic, and there is no surprise that Ryan Miller was one of three goaltenders selected to represent Team USA at the Sochi Olympics in February 2014. Joining him to man the crease will be Jimmy Howard from the Detroit Red Wings, and Jonathan Quick from the Los Angeles Kings.
It isn’t clear who will be the starting goaltender for Team USA – but the hopes of everyone in Buffalo will be that Ryan Miller carries the flag for Team USA and has great success in Sochi. Bringing home gold this season would be a highlight in what could very well be his last hurrah in Buffalo.
Team USA starts competition on February 13th. Their round robin contests are Slovaki (13th), Russia (15th), and Slovenia (16th). Teams qualifying for the tournament will then play the qualifying games on the 19th and 21st, with the medal round starting on the 22nd with the Bronze medal game, and the Gold medal game on the 23rd, closing the hockey tournament for 2014.
