Afternoon, Buffalo Sabres fans!
The Buffalo Sabres made me look pretty good the other night, as I scored ten out of a possible sixteen points in our new picks competition. Fellow co-editor Caitlin Campbell also scored ten points – but this isn’t her thread! She can look for praise elsewhere.
This afternoon’s matinee game against the Washington Capitals, though, might be a little more difficult to call, since the Capitals are actually good. Predicting a low-scoring affair between the cellar-dwelling Panthers and Sabres is one thing; trying to assess how the Sabres will fare against a potential playoff team is altogether different!
But we’ll give ‘er a shot.
Today’s game marks the return of Coody Hodgson from the land of the Injured Reserve, as well as the re-emergence of one Ville Leino. Keep that in mind when making your picks. The Sabres are still missing Tyler Myers, who is serving the second game of his suspension today. I’t also worth noting that Brayden McNabb has been recalled from Rochester, while Johan Larsson has been banished to the Amerks again.
The last thing I feel like mentioning is that Tyler Ennis has seven points in his last five games against the Capitals. Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin didn’t like being shutout the last time he faced the Sabres.
Questions to consider:
1. I’m setting tonight’s over/under at 6.5, so will the number of combined scores be over that, or under it? (3 pts.)
2. Which team scores first? Extra points for predicting the player who notches the first goal. (2 pts., 5 pts.)
3. Predict tonight’s winner, and the margin of victory. (3 pts. for winner; 5 for being closest to the margin of victory)
CC and are I tied at one win – do any of you have what it takes to join us at the top tonight? Get picking!
