Buffalo Sabres – Washington Capitals: Fan Chatter!

Afternoon, Buffalo Sabres fans!

The Buffalo Sabres made me look pretty good the other night, as I scored ten out of a possible sixteen points in our new picks competition.  Fellow co-editor Caitlin Campbell also scored ten points – but this isn’t her thread!  She can look for praise elsewhere.

This afternoon’s matinee game against the Washington Capitals, though, might be a little more difficult to call, since the Capitals are actually good.  Predicting a low-scoring affair between the cellar-dwelling Panthers and Sabres is one thing; trying to assess how the Sabres will fare against a potential playoff team is altogether different!

But we’ll give ‘er a shot.

Today’s game marks the return of Coody Hodgson from the land of the Injured Reserve, as well as the re-emergence of one Ville Leino.  Keep that in mind when making your picks.  The Sabres are still missing Tyler Myers, who is serving the second game of his suspension today.  I’t also worth noting that Brayden McNabb has been recalled from Rochester, while Johan Larsson has been banished to the Amerks again.

The last thing I feel like mentioning is that Tyler Ennis has seven points in his last five games against the Capitals.  Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin didn’t like being shutout the last time he faced the Sabres.

Questions to consider:

1.  I’m setting tonight’s over/under at 6.5, so will the number of combined scores be over that, or under it?  (3 pts.)

2. Which team scores first?  Extra points for predicting the player who notches the first goal.  (2 pts., 5 pts.)

3. Predict tonight’s winner, and the margin of victory.  (3 pts. for winner; 5 for being closest to the margin of victory)

CC and are I tied at one win – do any of you have what it takes to join us at the top tonight?  Get picking!

Well I’ll just get my praise when I beat you at your own game then! haha
    1. I’m going under for the number of goals tonight- remember the Sabres can’t score!
    2. Caps score first and Grabovski scores the opener
    3. Sabres lose 4-2 because they can’t win on the road

    • JHizzle75

      You were saying? Lol

      • Caitlin Campbell

haha clearly I can’t predict much- but I don’t think Rich did too much better lol

        • JHizzle75

Just giving you the gears about your ” can’t win on the road ” comment. Lol. Pretty sure you kicked my ass in the points department…again

          • Caitlin Campbell

ah I see it now- haha I was going with the odds- Didn’t think they’d ever win on the road

+3 for over/under, +2 for picking first team to score = 5 points. Stop tying me!!!!

  • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

I’ll go under, although I have a feeling most of us will go that route. Washington scores first, with Ovechkin putting it past Miller. Sabres lose 4-1, so the margin of victory is 3. CC, you got nothing!

    • Caitlin Campbell

      oh it’s on boi!

      • Jes

Hey common don’t count the rest of us out.

        • Caitlin Campbell

          • Jes

Haha thanks CC. I’m just glad I let go of that 5-2 dream lol.

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

+3 for over/under, +2 for picking first team to score = 5 points.

  • Labbatt

    1. I’m Going With The Under
    2. Hodgson Shakes Off The Rust Tonight And Gets The First One.
    3. 3-2 Sabres Win It In The Shootout Again.

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

+3 for the over under, +3 for winner, +5 for margin of victory = 11 points!

  • Jes

    Sabres win 3-2
    1. The under is a safe bet with this team lol.
    2. CoHo doesn’t score but will get an assist.
    3. 3-2 Sabres finally win one in regulation. Go Sabres!!

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

+3 for the over/under. +2 for predicting first score. +3 for predicting winner, and +5 for getting the margin of victory correct. 13 points altogether!

  • wolfdoctor

3-1 Washington. Leino scores sole Sabres goal. No points for Hodgson.

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

      +3 for getting the over/under.

  • JHizzle75

    1. I’m going OVER … That’s right boys and girls… not going to gain any ground by agreeing with everyone else. Lol
    2. Buffalo scores first from Leino !!!
    3. Margin of victory is 2 because I’m predicting a 5-3 Sabres victory
Am I still being deducted 10 points or was that a one time thing, Rich ?

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

One time thing! But no points for you today!

      • JHizzle75

I believe I predicted the Sabres to win,Rich! That’s 3 points ! Why do you keep trying to screw me out of points? Lol. I’m starting to take it personally here!

        • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

Jeez, why can’t I add your points correctly? I must have read 5-3 Sabres loss – my fault

  • Kevin

Sabres win 2-1. Miller makes 109 saves. Ironically the Sabres shoot wide 109 times. Hodgson and Pysyk get the goals.

    • JHizzle75

      Good call Kevin

    • http://SabreNoise.com/ Richard Spalding

+3 for the over/under. +8 for predicting winner and margin of victory 11 points for you, sir!

  • JHizzle75

Who would have thought it would be 1-1 after the first with both goals coming from a Sabres player. Maybe we should trade Flynn to the Caps, at least he can score on Miller. Ha ha ha
