This Day In Buffalo Sabres History January 18

Today the Buffalo Sabres take on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second time this season.  This will be the teams 17th game in the history of the franchise to be played on the 18th of January.  All time the Buffalo Sabres are 11-2-3 all time.  It appears the Buffalo Sabres enjoy playing on this day.

The last big day for the Buffalo Sabres to occur on this day was a 10-1 thumping of the Atlanta Thrashers.  You remember that game – I know you do because Lindy Ruff and the Sabres took a lot of grief for running up the score the way they did.

Two players who did most of the running did something that has only occurred twelve times in franchise history, and that is two players to score a hat trick.  Of the ten goals scored, six of them were scored by Derek Roy and Drew Stafford.

The last time the Sabres scored 10 goals?  Two years previous against the Los Angeles Kings.  The current edition of the Sabres is lucky to score ten goals in three games, let alone to score that many times in one game.

Skip down to the video below to see all ten goals scored by the Buffalo Sabres.

Can the Buffalo Sabres run the score up on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at the First Niagara Center.

I was in Edmonton when Buffalo beat the Oil 10-2. The crowd was chanting “we want 10!” In the last couple of minutes, Sabres got their 10th and the crowd (what was left of them) roared!
