With the Olympic break looming, the Buffalo Sabres needed to do some roster juggling. So to ensure one of their young prospects on the blue line could get some ice time during the break, they made a defenceman swap today. The Buffalo Sabres recalled Chad Ruhwedel from the Amerks and sent Mark Pysyk down to Rochester.

Mark Pysyk has had a strong season on the Sabres blue line and this move is just to ensure that he will be able to play somewhere during the Olympic break.
Ruhwedel leads all Amerks defenceman with 4 goals and 17 points in 34 games this season, but hasn’t suited up for the Buffalo
Sabres since a seven-game stint at the end of 2012-2013. Ruhwedel will stick with the Sabres for the next 8 games leading up to the Olympic break where he will likely then rejoin the Americans. Ruhwedel was called up briefly in December, but never stepped on the ice, thus assigned back to the Amerks a couple days later.
In 42 games on the Sabres blue line this season, Pysyk has 1 goal and 5 assists with a -11 rating and 14 penalty minutes on his way to becoming a staple on the blue line.
The Buffalo Sabres are back in action on Saturday night when they begin their five game road trip in Columbus and Ruhwedel should make his season debut with the Sabres then.
