Sabre Noise founder and reigning godfather Tim Redinger has apparently decided to earn a paycheck at his REAL job today, leaving me with the task of providing you with a glimpse into the past of the Buffalo Sabres.
Just kidding! About the earning his paycheck, that is. I’m pretty sure he blackmails his boss . . .
Anyway, today’s blast from the past won’t test your memory very much, as everything I am about to share with you is recent history.
First of all, the Sabres have played 15 games on January 30 throughout their history, and are 9-3-3 in those contests. Let’s hope tonight’s game, the 16th, pushes that win total into double digits.
We’ll be lucky if Ryan Miller decides to repeat a little history tonight against the Phoenix Coytoes, because on January 30, 2008, he blanked the Florida Panthers, stopping all 32 of the shots he faced en route to a 1-0 victory. Sadly, Miller won’t be able to rely on the man who scored the lone goal in that game, since it was none other than Thomas Vanek. Maybe Matt Moulson can step up tonight and be the number 26 who saves the day on January 30 again!
I’d like to see this bit of history be repeated again, as well, although it involves another ex-scorer who won’t be on the ice for Buffalo tonight: on this date back in 2007, Danny Briere notched his second hat trick as a member of the Buffalo Sabres, as Buffalo beat the Boston Bruins 7-1.
1-0, 7-1: hell, I’ll take either one of those tonight, just as long as the Sabres can rustle up another win on January 30!
