Hello folks, this is a new feature we’re going to be running here at SabreNoise every month until the end of the season, and then we’re going to do an even bigger feature at the end of the season. Every month we keep track of whom we name the 3 stars after every game and assign said player points based on their star and at the end of the month we tally up the 1st, 2nd and 3rd star for the past month. Sound good? Good let’s begin.

The Buffalo Sabres third star for the month of January is Cody Hodgson. Hodgson finished with 2 first star nominations, one second star and one third star giving him 9 points.

Cody Hodgson has had one heck of a month since returning from an injury on January 12th. In 10 games since returning

and being placed on the “second line” he put up 10 points and scored 6 goals helping the Buffalo Sabres find their scoring touch.

Hodgson has been playing on a line alongside Steve Ott and Drew Stafford but hasn’t let that slow him down at all. Cody Hodgson now leads the Buffalo Sabres with 29 points and will be one of the few to reach the 30 point plateau this season.

Cody Hodgson game has been scrutinized since his first days with the Vancouver Canucks. Injury after injury and a coaching controversy got him the boot to the Buffalo Sabres were he was to take over the first line centre duties. He performed well alongside Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek but something wasn’t quite right. People were chalking him up to be nothing more than a 3rd line centre, but his latest stint has people hoping Hodgson will develop into the future 2nd line centre.

Hodgson has looked different since returning from injury on January 12th, almost a different player playing with more confidence, patience and poise. Here are some highlights from the past month which make Cody Hodgson our 3rd star!
