This Day In Buffalo Sabres History February 5th

Ok – so not going to lie, I thought the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins played last night.  Too much going on – or a wish to get the season over with and move on with the future.

Regardless of when I think the games are – tonight the Buffalo Sabres faceoff against the Pittsburgh Penguins in what will be the teams 15th all time game on February 5th.  The Sabres are currently 6-5-3 on this day.

It is a goalie heavy this day in history as we feature Don Edwards, Bob Sauve, and Dan Bouchard.  All three goalies earned shutouts on this day in Buffalo Sabres history.

In 1981, Don Edwards made 31 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.  It was Edwards 14th shutout as a member of the Sabres, and would also be his last as he was traded with Richie Dunn to the Calgary Flames the next season.

On this day in 1983, Bob Sauve and Dan Bouchard combined for 44 saves (22 each) in just the third 0-0 tie in Sabres team history as neither the Sabres nor the Quebec Nordiques could find the back of the net.  Buffalo would skate to a total of 11 0-0 ties in team history.

Well we can’t get a 0-0 tie tonight – the only question really is who will perform better – Ryan Miller hasn’t played in a game situation since before the Avalanche
