This Day In Buffalo Sabres History February 25

Thanks to a winter storm that blasted through – the Buffalo Sabres face off against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, in what will be the 21st game on the 25th of February. All time the Buffalo Sabres are 10-7-3.

Our first stop down memory lane takes us to another rust belt city – as the Buffalo Sabres game in 1978 took place in Cleveland, Ohio – against the Barons. Danny Gare got the hat trick and a total of five points, and three other Buffalo Sabres tallied twice (Jerry Korab, Andre Savard, and Gary McAdam) as the Sabres and Barons combined for 16 goals as the Sabres banked a 13-3 road victory.

Another former NHL team appears on the Sabres schedule this time in 1995. Alexander Mogilny scores two goals this time and Dominik Hasek is near perfect against the Hartford Whalers as the Sabres claim a 3-1 victory.

In 1998 Dominik Hasek returned a Czech hero and a gold medalist to stop 33 saves against the Toronto Maple Leafs as they Buffalo Sabres and Leafs skated to a 2-2 tie. Geoff Sanderson made his Buffalo Sabres and scored just one minute and twenty-two seconds into the game.

Will the Buffalo Sabres prevail with either Ryan Miller or Jhonas Enroth tonight? Will the hero of the game be someone that was never a member of the Sabres before?
