Earlier tonight, the Buffalo Sabres fell to the Nashville Predators by a score of 4-1. Tonight’s game marked the first meeting between the teams since 2011. It also marked the second loss in a row for Buffalo, who fell to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday prior to tonight’s game.
Despite tonight’s loss, there were a few players who stood out for the Sabres. Without further ado, here’s tonight three stars:
3. The Sabres defense – Tonight, the Sabres allowed their opponent to get just 24 shots on goal through 60 minutes. Compare that to 31 shots-against versus Chicago, or 44 each against Florida and Tampa Bay — you can even go further back to 39 shots-against versus Dallas. Allowing the Predators to get just 24 shots on goal was a big improvement for the Sabres. Even though it was still a loss, it’s certainly a big help to the goaltender if you’re not constantly allowing the opponent to rack up 40 shots night after night.
2. Cody Hodgson - Although he was a minus-1 on the night, Hodgson was one of three players who made an appearance on the scoresheet. He assisted on the Sabres’ lone goal, but that isn’t all. Hodgson had four shots and three attempts blocked. He also went 57 percent in the faceoff circle and had 19:29 of ice time.
1. Drew Stafford – Start off with the obvious: Stafford had the lone Sabres goal tonight. He ended the night a minus-2, but there’s still a lot of positives to his night. Stafford had a team-high five shots. He also had two hits and was 75 percent in the faceoff circle. Tonight marked Stafford’s 500th NHL game, all of which have been played with the Sabres.
