Buffalo Sabres History Lesson - March 23

The Buffalo Sabres have played nineteen games all time on this day in the franchises history, and have a 10-4-4 record all time.

Facing off against the Vancouver Canucks tonight, a Sabres win gives them consecutive wins in Vancouver, the first time that has happened since winning three in a row from Oct 9th, 1996 through March 16th, 2000.

If he suits up tonight, and there is no reason to think he won’t, Cody Hodgson will skate in his 200th career NHL game.  He is the fifth Buffalo Sabres player this year to reach that milestone.

Buffalo Sabres vs California Golden Seals, March 1975

Oh what a year.  A Stanley Cup run.  On this date in Buffalo Sabres history the Buffalo Sabres hosted the California Golden Seals at Memorial Auditorium.  Despite allowing four goals, the Sabres better than doubled the Golden Seals production beating them 9-4, in a game in which Rene Robert picked up four points, with two goals and two helpers.

Buffalo Sabres vs Hartford Whalers March 1983

Seems like offense is the word of the day when it comes to March 23rd.  Eight years after scoring nine goals against California at Memorial Auditorium this time they get eight against the Hartford Whalers at home.  Another member of the Sabres had a four point night, with Gilles Hamel scoring two goals and adding two assists in the 8-3 Sabres victory over the Whalers.

Trade Talk Continues

Is it too soon to talk about all the wonderful things that Ryan Miller brought to the Buffalo Sabres?  Will this day in history is when that epic journey began.  The Buffalo Sabres acquired Rhett Warrener and a Fifth Round draft pick from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Mike Wilson.  That fifth round draft selection ended up being a diamond in the rough, a hidden gem.  It was the selection the Buffalo Sabres used to pick Ryan Miller.
