For the second straight day the Buffalo Sabres have tendered an offer to one of their prospects. Yesterday they signed Justin Kea, today the Buffalo Sabres have announced they have signed defenceman Jake McCabe to a three year, entry level contract.
Jake McCabe is a 6’1”, 210 lbs, left-handed defenseman, giving the Buffalo Sabres more size on the blue line.
Serving as the Badgers assistant captain and earned First Team All-Big Ten honors by registering a career-high 25 points through thirty-three games.
On top of his time with the Badgers, McCabe has also spent two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team (USHL) and was captain of Team USA at this past years IIHF World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. Team USA took gold in that tournament.
While last season the Buffalo Sabres added Chad Ruhwedel out of the NCAA program as an undrafted free agent – Jake McCabe was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. McCabe was the 44th overall selection in that draft. Ruhwedel was signed out of necessity due to an injury to Tyler Myers.
Will McCabe make his Buffalo Sabres debut this year – or will he be used to help give the Rochester Americans a boost as they seek a push to get themselves back into the Calder Cup playoff picture?
Last report I read from Die By The Blade is he will join the pro club to finish out the season.
Congratulations on your contract signing Jake McCabe and welcome to the Buffalo Sabres organization.
