The goalie carousel continues with the Buffalo Sabres as they have announced today that the team has recalled Connor Knapp and reassigned Andrey Makarov.
Makarov appeared in no games for the Buffalo Sabres, merely playing in a backup role from the bench for Matt Hackett. Connor Knapp will replace Makarov in that role as Hackett will ride the rest of the season out, baring an injury.
Knapp appeared in 29 games this season for the ECHL this season between the Greenville Road Warriors, Florida Everblades and Alaska Aces.
Knapp appeared in two games for the Amerks so far this season after being called up from the ECHL and lost both contests with a 4.03 goals against average.
With the regular season lost to the Buffalo Sabres and the Rochester Americans in the hunt for one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference – Makarov playing in Rochester makes the most sense.
The regular season for the Rochester Americans goes through April 19th and the Amerks sit in ninth place, just one point below the Charlotte Checkers (eighth place) and the Oklahoma City Barons (seventh place). They are six points behind the Milwaukee Admirals, the only other team who hasn’t clinched a playoff spot. The Admirals currently hold the sixth place seed.
Rochester has games in hand on the Barons (1) and Checkers (3).
The Rochester Americans have six games remaining on their schedule starting with tonights contest against the Toronto Marlies. They play three games in three nights on April 11, 12 and 13.
The Amerks have one television game remaining on the schedule and is the April 18th contest against the Syracuse Crunch.
Looking behind them, the Rockford IceHogs and Utica Comets are within striking distance of the Amerks as well.
The Rochester Americans are patiently waiting for the end of the Buffalo Sabres season, where they will get an ingest of better players for the playoff push.
