Buffalo Sabres Daily Dasher: Tickets, James Patrick, Playoffs, IIHF

Good morning Buffalo Sabres fans.  I hope everyone is enjoying themselves now that the weather has broken and you can get outside more.  Don’t stray to far out doors though, there is still plenty of great hockey going on.

Buffalo Sabres raise ticket prices after enduring worst season in franchise history.  Ticket prices going up four percent across the board.  Season ticket holders can get that four percent back in Sabres Bucks if they renew by June 23rd.  [Buffalo Business First].

Ok, I get it.  Your mad because the product on the ice is terrible and now you have to pay more to see it live.  It still is a business, they still have to pay the same rising taxes, maintenance fees etc. on the building, payroll etc.  The team needs to be involved with the league revenue sharing (according to them) so they have to raise prices every year.  Is there any sense in complaining about it at this point?  It is another inevitable part of being a Sabres fans.  Bad hockey and rising ticket prices.

Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman and assistant coach James Patrick arrested in Dallas.  [Examiner].

Apparently Patrick and his girlfriend were fighting over inappropriate text messages from another woman on his cell phone.  They struggled over the phone, and he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her back.  This wouldn’t be splashed all over the internet if it was just some random bar room spat between boyfriend and girlfriend, but because its a former pro athlete, boom, here we are.  Sorry James Patrick, respect points effectively lost on this one.

Who is hot and who’s not in the 2014 NHL playoffs.  [Bleacher Report].

I understand it is the Stanley Cup Playoffs – but to conceal a head injury to play in a game is just about as  stupid as you can get.  The NHL has a protocol for concussions and with all the to do that players and organizations and the league are making about head injuries are a priority, when players go and claim “their back hurts” only to be concealing a concussion is stupid and gives the league a bad image.

What players are worth watching at the annual IIHF World Championships?  [CTV News].

It still boggles my mind why the IIHF doesn’t coordinate a little bit better and do their tournament slightly later in the year.  Or put pressure on the NHL to start their season a little earlier so that more of the best players in the world get the chance to wear their international colors in the annual tournament.  I wouldn’t mind seeing this tournament played out in July if it ment more of the better players were able to be involved.
