Buffalo Sabres Daily Dasher: Drew Stafford, Milan Lucic, Stanley Cup Playoffs

There is nothing like a game seven.  Of course many Buffalo Sabres fans can’t remember the last time the Buffalo Sabres were involved in a game seven because it feels like ages ago.  Do you remember?  Buffalo has been involved the seven game sevens in the history of their club, the last one coming in 2011 against the Philadelphia Flyers.  Here are your morning links from around the National Hockey League

A brief look at who will be the captain of the Buffalo Sabres next season.  [Sports Media 101].

Does it really have to land on Drew Stafford if the team doesn’t land a free agent target as an obvious choice for team captain?  Tenure should be a part of the argument for a team captain, but just because Drew Stafford is the longest tenured Buffalo Sabres player doesn’t automatically make him captain material.

You want to make it about on intangible like Stafford’s tenure?  Then pick Tyler Ennis because he scores the goals for the team.  Or Christian Ehrhoff because he is the oldest guy on the team.  All three could likely be moved this season, so if your counting on the curse of the captain – well there you go.

You don’t necessarily have to name a captain, you could go with three alternates, or you could rotate captains on a monthly basis.  Don’t laugh its been done before, oh wait, yes you can laugh.  Either way, that decision is far enough in the future it isn’t worth bringing up until after free agency.

Lucic thinks what happens on the ice, stays on the ice, especially in the playoffs.  [Deadspin]

A lot has been said about the dirty Boston Bruins.  The cheapshots from Milan Lucic, well this time it appears his mouth is getting him in trouble.  Hopefully watching the Eastern Conference Finals while golfing will give him time to cool down before he does something stupid on the ice next season, but this is Lucic, so he will likely do something stupid anyways.

The San Jose Sharks are keeping their head coach and general manager despite not getting any further in the playoffs.  [San Jose Mercury News].

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.  Unless your a fan of the organization, and then the hours of banging your head off the wall when your team succumbs to the pressure of the playoffs and is eliminated.  At some point the Sharks have to make a front office change to give them that boost to finally reward your fan base and players with a Stanley Cup right?  Until then San Jose remains the only team in California without a Stanley Cup.
